Hermann Baumann (Born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1934) is a virtuoso horn player, teacher and composer. After starting his musical career as a singer and jazz drummer he switched to horn at 17. After a short period of study with the eminent teacher and soloist, Fritz Huth, he played first horn in various orchestras for 12 years, including first horn at Dortmund and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra [ [http://www.hornsociety.org/content/view/73/lang,en/ IHS Online — Hermann Baumann ] ] .

The starting point of his career as a soloist came when he when he won first prize in the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 1964 [ [http://www.hornsociety.org/content/view/73/lang,en/ IHS Online — Hermann Baumann ] ] . Since then he has played on many solo and chamber albums. Mr. Baumann can play many types of horns and has been successful in recordings of these instruments. This includes the early Baroque "corno da caccia". He regularly teaches at various horn conventions around the world.
