Notable Events

In September 2010(during a meeting of the district's board of trustees), district Superintendent E.W. "Pat" Adams announced his intention to resign his post at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year. A local news source reported that Adams, "...used the occasion to voice his opinion on the board and how it operates." Reportedly, Adams stated during this meeting that he, "...[has] memories of a great board that had no personal agendas, but cared about [the district's] students first and foremost. Some on the present board have personal agendas, because not one word has been said about our students. It has been all about changing policy that affects our administrators and teachers, questioning our duties and above all, micromanaging."[2]

Schools

The district has four schools, all located in Daingerfield:

  • Daingerfield High (Daingerfield; Grades 9-12)
    • Daingerfield has won the 1983 and 1985 Class AAA state football championships and the 1968, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Class AA football championships.
    • The 1983 team was among the most dominant in Texas history. The team scored 631 points while giving up only 8 the entire season (a touchdown to then Class AAAA Carthage and a safety to Kilgore). Of the 16 games won (the first Texas high school to win 16 games in a season), 14 were shutouts including the final 13 (the final seven of the regular season and all six playoff games, the only team in Texas high school football history to accomplish the latter feat).[3] The 50th Anniversary Edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football nominated the 1983 team as the #2 most memorable team (pro, college, or high school) in Texas football history; only the 1969 Texas Longhorn national championship team was rated higher.[4]
  • Daingerfield Junior High (Daingerfield; Grades 6-8)
  • South Elementary (Daingerfield; Grades 3-5)
  • West Elementary (Daingerfield; Grades PK-2)

The district formerly operated Lone Star Elementary (Grades PK-5) in Lone Star; however, due to declining enrollment the school was closed.
