Jack Jones (novelist)

Jack Jones (1884-1970) was a Welsh novelist and playwright.

Born in Merthyr Tydfil, Davies became a coalminer at the age of twelve. He joined the British Army and served in the First World War, being posted in South Africa, India and Flanders. On his return to Wales he was active for many political parties including Labour, Communists, and even Oswald Moseley's New Party, before standing as a Liberal candidate for Parliament.

In the 1930s he turned to writing and his books include "Rhondda Roundabout" (1934), "Bidden to the Feast" (1938), "Off to Philadelphia in the Morning" (based on the life of the composer Joseph Parry) (1947) and "Black Parade"

His other works include a three volume autobiography, seen as one of his finest achievements.
