Penelope Ann Miller (January 13 1964), sometimes credited as Penelope Miller, is an American actress. She starred in several major Hollywood films during the 1990s, and has continued appearing in supporting roles in both film and television.

Biography

Personal life

Miller was born Penelope Andrea Miller in Los Angeles, California, the middle daughter of Beatrice (née Ammidown), a costume designer, publicist, and journalist, and Mark Miller, a television actor and producer; [ [http://www.filmreference.com/film/17/Penelope-Ann-Miller.html Penelope Ann Miller Biography (1964-) ] ] Miller's mother was the goddaughter of Aristotle Onassis, and also edited "Harper's Bazaar". She moved to New York City to study theater after graduating from high school.

In 1994, she married actor Will Arnett; they divorced in 1995. In 2000, she married James Huggins and had her first child, Eloisa May.

Career

Miller's film debut came in 1987 in "Adventures in Babysitting", while in 1988 her Broadway stage role as Emily in "Our Town" garnered her a Tony award nomination.

At the same time she appeared in an episode of the TV series Miami Vice ("Death and The Lady"). In 1990, she played Paula in the Oscar-nominated film "Awakenings," starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams. She also played in the 1990 movie "Downtown" with Anthony Edwards and Forest Whitaker. She subsequently appeared in a number of other theatrical movies, notably as Edna Purviance in "Chaplin" in 1992 and with Al Pacino in "Carlito's Way" in 1993. Directed by Brian DePalma in that film, Miller shattered her wholesome screen image by playing a stripper and appearing nude in several scenes.

Miller co-starred with Marlon Brando (as his daughter) in 1990's "The Freshman" and with Gregory Peck (as his lawyer) in 1991's "Other People's Money". She also appeared in "Kindergarten Cop" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and "The Shadow" with Alec Baldwin, as well as in the Gary Sinise-directed film "Miles from Home".

The actress had the leading role in the big-budget creature feature "The Relic" (1997) as Dr. Margo Green. In 2000, she played scandalous teacher Mary Kay Letourneau in the TV version of a true story, "".

In 2002, Miller made the film "Dead in a Heartbeat" and starred in a two-part episode of the A&E channel's series "A Nero Wolfe Mystery". Her 2005 movie "Funny Money" was voted the top movie of the Sarasota Film Festival. She appeared in the Fox series "Vanished" for six episodes, playing the ex-wife of a U.S. senator whose wife has mysteriously disappeared, and will appear in the upcoming film "Blonde Ambition." She also guest-starred as Fran on "Desperate Housewives".

Miller recently appeared in the horror film "The Messengers", co-starring Dylan McDermott and Kristen Stewart. The film was produced in part by director Sam Raimi's production company, Ghost House Pictures.

She enjoys sport. She has long been involved with Judo and has competed in championships (one of her opponents being the 1996 and 2000 Olympics medalist Gella Vandecaveye).
