Ki Cuyler's Sports Bar and Grill

Ki Cuyler's Sports Bar and Grill, formally called the "Dougout," is a small local pub located in Harrisville, Michigan. Situated on North Huron Road, this local attraction is a favorite amongst the citizens of the small town of Harrisville, as well as the neighboring town of Oscoda. Named after the baseball legend, Kiki Cuyler (August30, 1898-February 11,1950), who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968. Cuyler lived at this location (though it was not a pub at the time) for the majority of his childhood. This pub is also known to have one of the largest collections of his memorabilia. Ki Cuyler's Sports Bar and Grill opened in the early 1970's, and with the exception of a 2 year closure in the early 1980's. It remains open today and serves as a landmark in the Harrisville area.

The pub is also reported to be haunted by the famed ball player himself. Since the pub's opening in the early 1970's, there have been several reported apparitions of Cuyler. One cook, while closing the grill down, walked into the walk in refrigerator for only a few minutes and came out only to see a large 10 gallon pot of water boiling on the grill. Hamburgers and rice noodles were also thrown on the clean, cool grill and appeared to have been burning only a matter of seconds after her departure from the area. After careful assessment of the situation the cook realized that the grill had been turned off for over an hour. There have been several other reported occurrences of strange noises coming from the attic of the pub as well as the basement. Pictures were switched from one location to another, pitchers of beer were reported moved and/or misplaced to other locations in the building, including the attic. One account of Cuyler's apparition is that of a local girl in the early 1970's having been able to see and even speak to Cuyler. The girl was soon after believed to have only been talking to an "imaginary friend." It is also reported that one may hear the crack of a baseball in the off-distance, as well as hollering as if someone was rooting for a fellow teammate. The last reported occurrence of Cuyler's ghost was in January of 1979 when an employee noticed that all the dishes from the busy night were cleaned and stored nice and neatly in their respective areas only in a matter of seconds by a man who walked into the back wearing a baseball uniform. The man was never seen walking out of the kitchen. Believed by many to be a kind and gentle spirit, Cuyler's ghost is often sought after by the patrons of the pub and is a well kept local story.
