Whitewater High School is one of five high schools as part of the Fayette County School System (Georgia) in Fayette County, Georgia. WHS officially opened in Fall 2003, and began running classes for freshmen and sophomores. The 2006-2007 year is the first year that a senior class enrolled in the school. The school is estimated to have cost $29 million. The school comes complete with LCD projectors in every room, an advanced security system, and Bluetooth technology running throughout the building.

In the News

Whitewater High School raised the most money in Georgia for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients program for the second consecutive time. In the 2006-2007 school year, the school raised $22,421.46 giving them a 6th place ranking in all of the country. The school is known for its community involvement and fundraising capabilities.

Inaugural Class

With over 430 students, the Class of 2007 was the first class to graduate at this institution. Commencement took place on May 25, 2007 complete with a military fly over and slideshow presentation highlighting their past four years of achievement.

Facilities

The school is situated next to Sara Harp Minter Elementary School, and a short distance south of Whitewater Middle School. The building itself is over 300,000 square feet in size, making it the largest government building in Fayette County. It is laid out in a grid pattern with four main hallways, which are intersected by three perpendicular cross halls. The arrangement of the hallways allows for quick access to any room in the building. Light in the building is provided by an impressive skylight in the halls.

Fine Arts

WHS has a fine arts program consisting of Art, [http://www.whitewaterhsband.org Band] , Chorus, Drama, and Orchestra. The WHS chorus program presents an outstanding show every year in March known as Whitewater Spectacular. The Whitewater Wildcat Marching Band is a division of the band program, consisting of approximately 140 members. The band regularly receives high honors at competitions, such as Grand Champion at the 14th Annual St. Augustine Ancient City Presentation of Bands, and Grand Champions at the 2007 Southern Star Invitational.

Athletics

Whitewater High offers a standard high school sporting curriculum. Varsity programs include: football, volleyball, softball, cross country, track and field, swimming, baseball, wrestling, basketball, golf, lacrosse, cheerleading, tennis, and soccer. Almost all sports sent a team or individual into the state tournament or their respective sports. Notable performances include:
*The 2007 Varsity Girls Soccer Team wins state 2 - 1 in double-overtime over Starr's Mill. Making them the first team state champions of the school.
*Softball Team makes it to super regionals and places fifth in state in 2006.
*Varsity Competition Cheerleading is named grand champion of their tournament.
*The Boys Swim Team comes in 2nd in the county meet, and sends 8 of 16 members to the state meet. A sophomore placed third in the 100 backstroke in 2005.
*The Boys Varsity Wrestling Team placed second in the state in the team meet, and two members won the AAAA State Championship in 2007. A Sophomore and a Senior, his second consecutive title.
*The Boys Lacrosse Team loses in the League Championship game to Newnan in 2007. Lacrosse turns into a school-sanctioned Varsity sport next year.
*The 2007 Varsity Boys Soccer Team loses in the State Championship game to McIntosh, 2 - 1.
*The Tennis Team won the 2006 finals against Woodward Academy.
*The Varsity Football Team proceeds to the 2007 AAAA state playoffs with an 8-2 record, having defeated such rivals as Creekside and Starr's Mill.
*In the first round of the playoffs, the 2007 Varsity Football Team defeats Lovejoy High School 23-21, making their record 9-2.

Whitewater's athletic rival is Starr's Mill High School in Fayetteville, with wins over them in both varsity football matches between them. 15-14 in 2006, and 35-7 in 2007. Also having sported rivalries against other county schools such as, Fayette County High School (Tigers), McIntosh High School (Chiefs) and Sandy Creek High School (Fighting Patriots).
