Llangyndeyrn is a
village in theRiver Gwendraeth river valley ,Carmarthenshire , inDyfed region ofWest Wales ,United Kingdom .The
Welsh language name of the village means "the church of St. Cyndeyrn". A Welshsaint named Cyndeyrn is the equivalent of the EnglishKentigern and the ScottishSt. Mungo ; but the St Cyndeyrn associated with Llangyndeyrn is believed to be a different one, a descendant ofCunedda whose festival is on 5/6 August.The small village is well known for its resistance against the attempt to flood the village in order to create a
reservoir for the Borough of Swansea.The village is often misspelt as Llangendeirne.
Old folklaw suggests that Llangyndeyrn is home to the feared beast the Hulk. Many of the old folk in the village have believed this for years and many have reported sightings of this wild beast.Dilys 'dan rhewl' added:'I've seen it, it came in through the back garden screamin 'Fi yw'r hulk, Fi yw'r Hulk.'Dilys reported that this fiend had a long face and short brown hair, also it was reported to be wielding a pint of home special brew.Experts have searched into this legend and have found no traces of the monster, but sources have claimed to have found broken teeth, severed fingernails, and empty packets of pork scratchings.
