Steve Barri

Steve Barri

Steve Barri (born Steven Barry Lipkin in Brooklyn, New York on February 23, 1942) is an American songwriter and record producer.

Early in his career Barri was a staff writer with Dunhill Records. He frequently collaborated with P.F. Sloan, and the partners were responsible for the success of The Grass Roots & the Bubblegum Pop group Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods. Barri also wrote and/or produced many other hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s, including "Eve of Destruction" recorded by Barry McGuire, "You Baby" by The Turtles, and "Secret Agent Man" (the theme from the TV series "Secret Agent") by Johnny Rivers.

After Dunhill was acquired by ABC Records, Barri stayed on as head of Artists & Repertory (A&R) where he focused on signing and producing new artists. ABC Records was dissolved in 1977 and Barri was hired as A&R head at Warner Bros. Records, where he produced the #1 1977 single "Undercover Angel" by Alan O'Day, as well as O'Day's followup single "Skinny Girls," which went to #1 in Australia. Barri moved again to Motown Records in 1982.

In 1998 Barri joined Gold Circle Entertainment / Samson Records as a producer, and was promoted to senior vice president in 2001.
