Green Island Serenade

"Green Island Serenade" (zh-tp|t=綠島小夜曲|p="Lǜdǎo Xiǎoyèqǔ"; also known as "Serenade of Green Island") is a Mandarin Chinese classic song composed in 1954 by Zhou Lanping and famously performed by Teresa Teng. A cover version of this song appears as a hidden track on Vienna Teng's second album, "Warm Strangers" (2004). The lyrics of this song were probably written by Pan Yingjie or Deng Yuping.

In the past, this song was often associated with a political meaning, for the real Green Island was used as a place of exile for political prisoners from the late 1940s during the single party rule of Taiwan's Kuomintang political party. In fact, this Green Island in the title means Taiwan itself. The uncertain author of the lyrics probably intended to point that plants flourished on the beautiful island or wanted to replace the frequently-used name of Taiwan, Formosa, with poetic grace and imagination. The original intent of this song is probably a tribute to Taiwan or a description of romantic love.Fact|date=February 2007
