Willisau is a municipality in the district of Willisau in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. It was formed on 1 January 2006 out of the union of the previously separate municipalities of Willisau Country and Willisau City.

History: Town foundationThe barons von Hasenburg (master seat Asuel in law) acquire in 12. Century a for the time being modest landed property in the area Willisau. The patronage rights of the church WIllisau and the use of the Kirchenvogtei of the Grosspfarrei Willisau provide a substantial income for them. As privileged Vasallen and pledge takers of the Habsburger they can their sphere of influence expand and not stand finally at noble position for a count sex after, although they never reach the count conditions. From the spring 1302 to summer 1303 the three brothers Markward, Heimo and walter von Hasenburg in the water-rich outer one between Guetsch and lock mountain create the town Willisau. The existing village settlements are cleared away and young Willisau count approximately 150 inhabitants. The possession of a fastened center is not also for the Hasenburger a status symbol which can be underestimated. Administrative seat of the Hasenburger remains however the high-medieval elevator castle at the west slope of the waving mountain, destroyed in the Sempacherkrieg. Newer archaeological findings let assume that the place Willisau already exhibited etwelche urban characteristics before the actual town foundation (attachments).

Willisau - a town survivesThe city Willisau developed only at the end of the medieval town foundation epoch. A surrounding field of some importance made a surviving for the grief city possible. The inhabitant of the town Willisau was over long time half a craftsman, half farmer. Only in 16. Century became Willisau gradually craftsman and trade city, whereby the cake which can be distributed was not very large and a craftsman not rich or wealthy could become. This pointed itself in particular to the city fire of 1704, when only few basic owners from own strength were able to develop their house again. A certain meaning for living on the town was attached likewise to the circumstance that the shortest way from Luzern led to Berne and into the Western part of Switzerland across Willisau. Willisau received already the market right to 1330. In the first four decades after the town foundation the Habsburger kept the Zepter firm in the hand. Among the descendants (1367-1407), living outward, the Sadtbezirk enjoyed substantial free spaces, what led to the emergence of an administrative and office-basic oberschicht. Also under the new national rule in the city state Luzern kept the Stadtbuergerschat certain privileges and administrative authority, even if the nationalwonderful competencies were noticed by the Landvogt. Thus Willisau became as original appendage of a smaller Feudalherrschaft under Luzern an administrative centre of a relatively large territorial district. ReunificationOn the road map Willisau appears as a place before that 01.01.2006 formed for two autonomous political municipalities the small dye Willisau: Willisau city (337 hectars) and Willisau country (3771 hectars). Both municipalities count together well 7000 inhabitants. How did it come to the formation of the two municipalities? In 17. and 18. Century gave it on the landscape numerous poor and needy people. With the creation of tax letters one tried to get the arm loads in grasp. The Willisauer tax letter functioned only badly, because the citizens of the city could supply their relatively few arms without problems (yields from the Siechenhaus and the Spitel) and not gladly to the needy ones outside of the city district to contribute wanted. Thus developed 1763 for "exterior" the special tax letter, whereby outside of the city district living the city citizens the municipal law were released subordinated and from the achievements for arms. That was cause for measurement tendencies. There were tones of discord also, because the privileged city citizens handhabten as owners of the common land and spell forest the dispatching of wood at "exterior" very restrictively. 1798 became the assessment areas Munizipalitaeten and 1803 these autonomous municipalities. 1807 and 1876 were described the borders between city and land municipality. For the inhabitants of the landscape the city remained also after the establishment of municipality further the grown purchase and meeting center. To 25.01.2004 the being correct people of Willisau at the urn the two municipalities decided by 01.01.2006 to again-unite. Sakrale buildingsKlassizisti column resounding churchAlready before the actual town foundation the Pfarrdorf Willisau possessed "kilchen". From early 13. Century comes likewise the lateRoman church tower. The today's klassizistische column resounding church impressing in their extents was established in the years 1805-10 after the plans of the Pfaffnauers Kirchenbauers Josef Purtschert. It forms the most salient building within the old part of town. On the occasion of the church renovation of 1929 a solid bell carrier was put on to the church roof, which applies today among specialists as architectural pioneer achievement to bold Sahl and Betonkonstrkutionen. Apart from renewals up-to-date the inside of the church was carried back to a large extent with the restoration of 1995-97 to the original condition. Holy blood churchThe holy blood church before the upper gate was built 1675 and reminded of the legend of the gottesfrevlerischen players on the "desire garden of the Wigger" from 7 July 1392.
