The Bodil Awards are the major Danish
film awards , givenannually by the Denmark's National Association of Film Critics (Filmedarbejderforeningen ) at a ceremony in the Imperial Cinema in central Copenhagen. Established in 1948, it is one of the oldest film awards in Europe. The awards are given without regard to commercial interests or box-office sales, but rather to highlight the films or actors that the critics regard as most worthy.The name of the award honors the two of the most important actresses in Danish cinema,
Bodil Kjer andBodil Ipsen . The statuette is made of porcelain, was designed by Danish artistEbbe Sadolin , and sculpted by Svend Jespersen ofBing and Grøndahl .Awards are presented for the following categories:

*Best Actor
*Best Actress
*Best Supporting Actor
*Best Supporting Actress
*Best American Film
*Best Non-American Film
*Best Documentary or Short Film
*Best European Film (awarded from 1961 until 2000)
*Best Non-European Film (awarded from 1961 until 2000)There is also shared a Cinematographers award as well as a Special Bodil for important contributions during the year or an Honorary Bodil for a person who, through the years, has distinguished them self in a meaningful way.
