Black Point Power Station is a gas fired power station in Hong Kong, near to Castle Peak Power Station, another power station serving China Light and Power.
Built in 1996 in Tuen Mun, the station was built for China Light and Power and provides 2,500 MW of power. The complex consists of two halls with 4 turbines in each hall producing cleaner power when compared to coal or other gas powered plants. The last turbine was completed in 2006.
The station is owned by a consortium of companies:
* 60% by ExxonMobil Energy Limited
* 40% by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited
Since its deployment, gas is provided from a gas well 750 km south of Hong Kong, in the South China Sea. Now China Light and Power has submitted proposal to build an LNG reception station within Hong Kong to make the Power Station capable of burning gas from liquefied natural gas (LNG).
