SCOPE Alliance

The SCOPE Alliance [http://www.scope-alliance.org] is a non-profit industry alliance aiming at accelerating the deployment of carrier grade base platforms for service provider applications. Its mission is to enable and promote the availability of open carrier grade base platforms based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware / software and Free and open-source software (FOSS) building blocks, and to promote interoperability between such components.

SCOPE complements the work of industry initiatives such as [http://www.picmg.org/ PCI Industrial Computers Manufacturers Group] ] , [http://www.saforum.org/home The Service Availability Forum] , [http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/Main_Page The Linux Foundation] and others that publishes open specifications. SCOPE Alliance is not creating specifications, but describes profiles of existing open specifications. The SCOPE Alliance focus is on such existing open specifications it believes are relevant to accomplish its mission, but will also identify areas where additional specification work is needed.

Membership in SCOPE is open to any Network Equipment Provider (NEP), and providers of components to network equipment, that supports the goals and objectives of the alliance.

The OpenSAF Project [http://www.opensaf.org] started in January 2008 is implementing in Open Source most of the SCOPE Alliance recommendations for NEP High Availability middleaware
