Education

An American University graduate with a B.A. in Film and Video, Imgrund edits longform projects in addition to his spot work. While enrolled in American University's Visual Media program, he studied photography and experimental film. He also attended the School of Visual Arts in New York as well as Ohio University and the University of London.

Early work

After working in New York as a stop-motion animation assistant on commercials and music videos that included Peter Gabriel's "Big Time", Imgrund moved into editing, assisting on music videos that included "Dirty Blvd." for Lou Reed, the Harris Savides directed video "Vertigo" for Matthew Sweet, as well as videos for New Order, Keith Richards, and R.E.M.. While assisting editor Laura Israel, Imgrund found himself working across the hall from Savides who was just getting going with his career. Paula Greif; who had just finished co-directing "Revolution" for Nike with Peter Kagan also had studio space on the same floor. The spot which featured the Beatles track, was shot on super 8 film and would go on to change the course of advertising along with copyright laws and the use of music in spots. Watching the Nike story unfold from the sidelines had a lasting impression on Imgrund's work. He was later hired by Dennis Hayes & Associates to assist veteran editors Barry Stilwell, Michael Saia and Lin Polito on commercials including many directed by Leslie Dektor and Jeff Preiss. D H & A was one of the first groups of editors to beta-test the brand new Avid Media Composer upon its release. A move to the west coast in the 90's brought him to Spot Welders where he worked alongside editors Robert Duffy and Michael Heldman - assisting on a variety of music videos and commercials directed by among others, Mark Romanek, Samuel Bayer, Tarsem, Jean-Baptiste Mondino and Spike Jonze.

Recent history

Recently Imgrund's editing can be seen in commercials and new media content featuring comedy dialogue and documentary style storytelling; complimenting his visual effects-driven spot work. In September 2007, a multi-screen large format HD installation for Microsoft Living Mobile was installed in the American Airlines terminal at JFK International Airport. The project was edited by Imgrund for McCann Erickson/SF and was directed by the designers at Brand New School. When he's not in the editing room, Imgrund can often be found tending to the goats that feed on his hillside property in California. He was one of the first editors to replace his lawn mower for goats on the west coast.
