William "Tra" Thomas, III (born November 20, 1974 in Deland, Florida) is an American football offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He was originally drafted by the Eagles 11th overall in the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida State.

Thomas is a two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection in his career.

Early years

Thomas attended DeLand High School in DeLand, Florida and was a letterman in football.

Professional career

Philadelphia Eagles

Through the 2005 NFL season, Thomas played with a constantly worsening herniated lumbar disc, and after ten games that year, was placed on the injured reserve list because of it. Surgery corrected the condition, and Thomas recovered in time for the 2006 season.

Name changes

Prior to the 2006 NFL season, Thomas was referred to as "Tra". Tra was a nickname noting he was William Thomas III. He had requested starting with the 2006 season, to be called William Thomas. In the Ray Rhodes years, another William Thomas was a Pro Bowl linebacker for the Eagles.

In April 2008, it was revealed that he was switching back to Tra Thomas with many people failing to call him William. [ [http://philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=15282&spadaro=1 Musing On Smith Move, Reid Interview, More - Philadelphia Eagles ] ]
