Striated muscle

Striated muscle

Striated muscle is a form of fibres that are combined into parallel fibres. More specifically, it can refer to:
* Skeletal muscle
* Cardiac muscle

In practice, the term "striated muscle" is sometimes used to refer exclusively to skeletal muscle when distinguishing it from smooth muscle. [eMedicineDictionary|Striated+muscle] However, different medical dictionaries report different usages of the terms. Cardiac muscle is a different type of muscle, but has almost the same structure as skeletal muscle.
