Heaton Woods

Heaton Woods

Heaton Woods is a colloquial name for an ancient woodland located mainly in Heaton, Bradford, West Yorkshire, but stretching into Shipley. Heaton Woods Trust is a registered charity established in 1977. The Trust is responsible for the care and protection of the woods for the benefit of present and future generations.

Recent Improvements

In recent months, Sean’s Pond has been extended with a second pond, following on from the original via a small passage.

Problems

Each winter, when there is a cover of snow, a number of local residents go sledging in the woods. However, there has been a number of lawsuits due to injuries and so the trust has been forced to attempt to stop the sledging this year. A number of young residents have become angry with this and plan to do anything they can to continue sledging. The name of their organisation is 'Get out of our woods, you idiots'.

A number of people have complained about grass paths that become slippery when wet and could cause an injury. Because of this, the trust has been forced to lay gravel paths whenever possible.

Dog owners are now required to keep their dogs on a lead at all times in the woods. However, few people follow this rule and many consider it 'stupid' in a recent survey.

'Get out of our woods, you idiots'

As mentioned above, this is a small group of people committed to keeping the woods 'the way they should be'. The group's website is currently down for repairs (07/01/07).
