Ray Downey

Ray Downey

Ray Downey (born September 23, 1968 in Halifax County, Nova Scotia) was a Canadian boxer, who won a light middleweight bronze medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1990 he gained silver at the 1990 Commonwealth Games.

*Won the Light Middleweight Bronze Medal for Canada at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Results were:
**Defeated Jorge López (Argentina) 5-0
**Defeated Norbert Nieroba (West Germany) 3-2
**Defeated Abrar Hussain Syed (Pakistan) 5-0
**Defeated Martin Kitel (Sweden) 5-0
**Lost to Si-Hun Park (South Korea) 0-5
*Competed as a Light Middleweight at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Result was:
**Lost to Hendrik Simangunsong (Indonesia) 5-12

Pro career

Downey turned pro in 1994 and had limited success. He retired in 2000 with a pro record of 16-2-1.
