Westfield Galleria at Roseville, formerly known as Galleria at Roseville is a shopping mall owned by The Westfield Group, located in Roseville, California, United States.

Originally, a mall was to be built in neighboring city Rocklin. After a long and tedious process, plans were then scrapped and were submitted to Roseville. On July 25, 1995, a phased mall with three anchors was approved. On June 25, 1998, a full-phase mall with four anchors was approved after Nordstrom committed to building. Galleria at Roseville was built in 2000 by Urban Retail Properties, Inc., anchored by Macy's, Nordstrom, JCPenney, and Sears. Later in 2000, Urban was acquired by Rodamco North America, N.V, a Netherlands-based real estate investment company. The center was further sold to The Westfield Group in 2002 with the dissolution of Rodamco. At that time the center was renamed "Westfield Shoppingtown Galleria at Roseville." Westfield dropped the "shoppingtown" part from all its U.S. centers and now the name is "Westfield Galleria at Roseville." Locals refer to it just as "The Galleria" or "Roseville Galleria".

A Borders bookstore used to anchor the outdoor Promenade at its south end. It closed in early 2008 due to corporate restructuring and because of its close proximity of another Borders store less than three miles (5 km) away, also in Roseville. Westfield insists many retailers are interested in the building. [Citation

A Copeland Sports also used to anchor the Promenade. It weathered the majority of the company's closures until the company was completely shut down. It is being used as the mall office and Restoration Hardware storage. It will house a large format store, possibly flagship, as part of the expansion.

2008 marked the Galleria's first year of substantial business closures. So far, Wilson's Leather, Lundstrom Jewelers (formerly Crescent Jewelers), and Whitehall Jewelers have all closed or are in the process of doing so. However, all those closures were due to complete company liquidations and had nothing to do with their performance at their Galleria locations.

Community involvement

Each year the Galleria at Roseville is home to many events that benefit the community. The Volunteer Boutique and the Dream, Play, House are just to name a few. In 2006, The Dream, Play, House event helped raise over $110,000 for the Placer County Child Abuse Prevention Council. The Galleria also plays host to many Roseville Chamber of Commerce events including this year's Roseville 2008. In 2007, the KNCI Week of Wishes Radiothon raised over $276,000 in 36 hours.

Location

The Westfield Galleria at Roseville is located near the junction of Highway 65 and I-80.

*JCPenney "145,000 sq ft. (expanding to 185,000, re-opening October 3)"

=Expansion=

In April 2004, Westfield submitted plans to expand. The expansion was to include new stores, expansion of Sears and Macy's, theatres, and three parking garages. After strong market conditions, Westfield expanded the plans for more stores and also expansion of JC Penney. With the soaring construction costs and less need for the theaters, Westfield cancelled the plans for theaters, and Sears announced that they were going to delay their expansion. On June 21, 2006, the Roseville City Council approved a modified lease agreement with Westfield. On June 22, 2006, the planning commission approved the expansion. It was then appealed to City Council, and then they denied the appeal request. In January 2007, construction started on the $260 million, convert|480000|sqft|m2|sing=on expansion of the center. Changes to the Promenade as well as the relocation of Crate & Barrel will also be completed as part of the project. Phase 1 is opening November 13th, 2008 and Phase 2 will be completed Summer 2009.

Details

The "Elevate Your Every Expectation" expansion will include: expansions of Sears, Macy's, JC Penney by convert|40000|sqft|m2 each, although Sears has put theirs on hold. Also, convert|293617|sqft|m2 of new retail space will be built for approximately 100 new stores and restaurants. Through the expansion, many stores will be relocating to either new spaces in the expansion or into the current mall, where other retailers will be relocating as well. The Promenade will be getting an entirely new look and feel by enclosing the portion between Max's (closed) and Crate & Barrel (relocating) to increase foot traffic. The currently existing, convert|124|ft|m|sing=on tower is proposed to be replaced by an convert|85|ft|m|sing=on clock tower and the large sweeping staircase will be removed to create a more consistent flow to the end. A 2-story parking garage is now completed between JC Penney and Macy's and a 5-story parking garage between the Promenade and Sears is under construction. The Hwy 65 offramp and all existing entrances into the parking lot will be improved and a continuous auxiliary lane will run along Roseville Parkway and will serve as a 4th lane. The Hwy 65 improvements are planned for 2008. The new dual left turns into the mall from Roseville Parkway at Reserve Drive have been completed as well as the new roundabout at Antelope Creek. Improvements to the ring road in the parking lot have been completed with the exception of the West Drive area which will be reconfigured to cope with the new parking structure. Cheesecake Factory has completed their restaurant at the mall entrance between JC Penney and Nordstrom. As part of the Cheesecake Factory approval, a parking lot will be erected where McDonald's used to stand, once construction at the mall has been completed. The current food court will be relocated and built as a "dining terrace." The dining terrace will be a completely different type of atmosphere from the typical food court. It will have numerous fireplaces with more upscale dining choices, all will 820 seats in a unique seating layout that creates "niches" of seating to eliminate the huge vastness of a typical food court. The play area will be relocated in the NEW Sears court and will join new and relocated children's retailers. On the 2nd level above that, the area will cater towards teens as well as on the Nordstrom side of the expansion.

Lawsuit

Peter P. Bollinger Investment Co. filed a $60 million lawsuit against the Galleria, alleging that it gave out confidential information and made false statements about their shopping center, The Fountains. Westfield was considering a joint partnership, but then pulled out of the deal in November. Bollinger alleged that Westfield gave The Fountains tenants better deals to locate to the new expansion under way at the Galleria. Tenants in question are: Stride Rite, Cheesecake Factory, Smith & Hawken, Ecco, Eurowalk, and West Elm. [http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/stories/2007/03/12/daily49.html Developer sues owner of Westfield Galleria at Roseville - Sacramento Business Journal: ] ] Since the lawsuit was filed, Cheesecake Factory has signed and opened at the Galleria, West Elm and Smith & Hawken have signed and opened at The Fountains, and Stride Rite has signed with the Galleria. Bollinger has hinted that he has been unable to sign Ecco and Eurowalk due to the numerous delays at The Fountains. The status of Stride Rite is unknown, but real estate sources say they will be opening at the Galleria. The lawsuit was dropped in August 2007 and relations between the 2 centers appear to be better.

acramento Capitals

The Sacramento Capitals tennis team has announced that the Galleria will be the new home for the Allstate Stadium in 2007. They are committed to at least five years at the new stadium.
