Amateur Achievement Award of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific

Amateur Achievement Award of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific

The Amateur Achievement Award recognizes "significant contributions to astronomy or amateur astronomy by those not employed in the field of astronomy in a professional capacity." cite web | title=Amateur Achievement Award of Astronomical Society of the Pacific | url= http://www.astrosociety.org/membership/awards/amateur.html | accessdate=2007-08-05] The award, given since 1979, is managed by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. It consists of $500 and a commemorative plaque, which is presented at the Annual Meeting Awards Banquet. Candidates can be nominated by any astronomer and the nomination should be accompanied by other letters of support. The only exception in its tradition was the year 2002, when the Award Committee, composed of the Board of Directors, did not award any candidate.
