Jerry Schemmel

Jerry Schemmel

Jerry Schemmel (born November 26, 1959) is the radio announcer for the MLB's Colorado Rockies and the Colorado State Rams football and men's basketball teams. He was formerly the play-by-play announcer for the NBA's Denver Nuggets, calling their full regular season from 1992 to 2009, when he assumed home-only duties until being hired as the full-time voice of the Rockies in January 2010. He is also a survivor of the crash-landing of United Airlines Flight 232 on July 19, 1989; after escaping he returned to the wreckage to rescue an 11 month old baby. His book, Chosen to Live describes the experience.

He was hired by the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League in 2007 to announce their minor league baseball games on radio. He previously called a limited schedule of Colorado Springs Sky Sox games on cable television. On January 7, 2010, Schemmel was announced as the replacement for Jeff Kingery as the "Voice of the Rockies".

Schemmel is a 1982 graduate of Washburn University; he earned a law degree from the same school in 1985. He briefly served as the Deputy Commissioner of Continental Basketball Association.
