Unicron Trilogy

Unicron Trilogy

The Unicron Trilogy is a series of television programs, comic books, and toy franchises in the Transformers maxi-series. It deals with the approach of the Transformer chaos-bringer Unicron and the aftermath of his destruction. It consists of Transformers Armada, Transformers Energon, and Transformers Cybertron.

Armada

The Autobots and Decepticons battle over the fate of a group of Transformers called Mini-Cons, human-sized robots with the power to strengthen other Transformers. When the Mini-Cons escape, they crash-land on Earth while being chased by both factions of Cybertronians. The Decepticons total their ship when they crash into the moon, and the Autobots land their ship in the side of a mountain. Some years later, a group of kids reactivate a Mini-Con and get attacked by Megatron as he tries to capture it. Over time, more and more Mini-Cons are awakened, and soon, the Transformers learn the shocking origin of the small robots: Unicron, who was hiding as one of Cybertron's moons. Sideways and Thrust reactivate him using the Mini-Cons with the ability to merge to form super weapons. Remaining in his monstrous planet form, Unicron attempts to consume Cybertron. Unicron then transforms into his titanic robot mode and combats the Autobot-Decepticon armada. Unicron, through Sideways, reveals that he grew in power by absorbing the hatred between Autobot and Decepticon. He then absorbs the nine super-weapon Mini-Cons (combined as the Star Saber, Skyboom Shield, and Requiem Blaster respectively) making them mindless and Rad with them, Rad then brings their minds back; depowering Unicron. Optimus Prime and Megatron have a final battle which re-awakens Unicron. Leaving their battle unresolved, Megatron sacrifices himself which forces Unicron to withdraw to another dimension and peace is restored on Cybertron.

Energon

Some time after the destruction of Unicron, the remaining Autobots and Decepticons team up for a short time. Quickly, though, a new threat appears, the Terrorcons, who steal Energon for their master, Alpha Quintesson who was re-started up by Unicron to keep him from going off-line. Megatron is soon resurrected using the Energon Alpha Q stole in order to bring back the worlds destroyed by Unicron, he then confronts Alpha Q, Alpha Q uses Unicron's head to escape but as Megatron grows in power, a dormant and utterly evil force seems to awaken from within. After Alpha Q disappears, Megatron then gathers Energon to repair Unicron's body to use it for himself. He gets Unicron back online, but then fights against the Autobots. At some point Unicron is able to control Megatron's body. Unicron's body is destroyed with only a small black ball remaining, but his mind survives inside Megatron which leads him to super energon that turns him into Galvatron. Primus then uses the rest of super energon on the black ball to turn it into a sun for Alpha Q's planets.

Cybertron

(Originally known in Japan as Transformers: Galaxy Force (トランスフォーマー ギャラクシーフォース))

Ten years after Energon, Primus's attempt to contain Unicron's spark ultimately failed, as the Energon sun collapsed, creating a black hole and is steadily growing in size. With few options available, the Autobots seek out the Omega Lock, an artifact capable of destroying the black hole once and for all. However, Megatron soon catches on and wants the Omega Lock to control the black hole, so that he can reshape the universe in his own image. An ancient Transformer from the beginning of time named Vector Prime appears with a map to the Lock and the four Cyber Planet Keys needed to activate it. Now it's a race to see which side can get the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys first before the black hole devours everything.
