Anderson Javier Machado [ma-CHA-do] (born January 25, 1981 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a shortstop in Major League Baseball playing in the New York Mets organization. From by|2003 through by|2005, Machado has played for the Philadelphia Phillies (2003), Cincinnati Reds (by|2004) and Colorado Rockies (2005).

Machado has soft hands, good range, quick feet and a cannon for an arm. But he has hit the ball very little in the minor leagues, being able to draw 108 walks and yet still find time to strike out 120 times. His speed allows him to run the bases well, and he is adept at taking the extra base.

2005

In July , the Colorado Rockies claimed Machado off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds and added him to their 25-man roster.

Machado appeared in two games for the Reds this season, both as a pinch hitter, and was 0-for-2. The 24-year-old shortstop began the year on the 15-day disabled list following offseason surgery to repair a torn medial collateral ligament and torn meniscus in his left knee (January 28, 2005). He played in 21 games du RBI.

Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1998, Machado has played in 20 major league games, batting .268 (15-for-56) with five doubles, no homers and four RBI.

Machado's brother Albenis Machado plays for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
