Parchester Village, Richmond, California

Parchester Village is a master planned neighborhood in Northwestern Richmond, California.

Parchester Village was originally planned as the first interracial residential development, but was designated all-black after whites lost interest in purchasing here after finding out that it was to be a racially mixed neighborhood. The streets are named after the first families to move on the street. It is located near the Point Pinole Regional Park and is built on landfill unto the adjacent San Pablo Bay. Parchester comes from Fred Parr, the last name of the man who owned many Richmond business of the day.

The area is served by AC Transit's line 70 which connects the rather isolated neighborhood to the downtown Richmond and BART station, Contra Costa College, San Pablo, Hilltop, and The Richmond Parkway Transit Center, El Sobrante, and San Pablo Towne Centre. There are also about half a dozen 600 series school routes. The neighborhood is bordered by Point Pinole Regional Shoreline and the West Contra Costa County Detention Center to the north, Atlas road, SPRR tracks, and the Richmond County Club to the east, the Richmond Parkway to the southeast, grassland flats to the south, and San Pablo Bay to the west. The area has expansive views of the waterfront, park, and Marin County and North Bay Mountains.
