Antônio Carlos Zago, widely known as "Antônio Carlos" or "A.C.Zago", (born in Presidente Prudente, May 18, 1969) is a former Brazilian footballer in the centre-back position.

Club career

Born in Presidente Prudente, a city of the state of Sao Paulo and Italian origins, began in professional football in St. Paul, where he remained for three years and then go and play for one season all'Albacete, Spain. The following year he returned to his homeland, this time to Palmeiras, another team of St. Paul and acerrima enemy than having the same name of the city. After three years emigrated again, this time in Japan, Kashiwa Reysol, where once again remained for only one year before returning to play again in St. Paul, but this time at Corinthians.

In January 1998 Zago moved to Rome, wanted by Zeman to reinforce the defence. In game debut, 11 February 1998 (Lecce-Roma) was expelled after a few minutes of play, but with the club giallorosso made the leap in quality, so that in 1999 riconquistò also a place in his National Assembly. At Rome Zago remained five years and was also part of the training sample of Italy in 2001, a fact which remains an idol to the public romanista, who soprannominò Terminator. That year Zago formed a rocky defence well supported by the dall'argentino compatriot Aldair and Walter Samuel.

In November 1999 Zago realized protagonist of an episode that sparked sensation when sputò in the face to Lazio Simeon during a derby. The gesture was often deplorable sottilineato (positive) by giallorossi and supporters are reminded twice in the song "AS Roma" Brusco, the phrases "Zago: spits fire as' n dragon" and "people can ssolo stà wetsuit, artrimenti AC Zago je spits. " Zago is also one of the few Brazilian players who is known with his name and surname, without their storpiatura or use of a nickname. In the years was to Rome has seen his name on the shirt written in different ways, the first "ANTONIO CARLOS", then "AC ZAGO" then simply "ZAGO."

In 2002 he left Rome and after a year of inactivity went to Turkey and signed with the Beşiktaş, before returning to Brazil in August 2004 to Santos. In 2005 and 2006 played in Juventude. He closed his career in 2007 with Santos.

International career

He debuted in the selection of Brazil on October 30, 1991 against Yugoslavia (3-1) and remained within the national squad until 1993.

After a period of light and shadows, only after moving to Rome again managed to put on display his abilities and in 1998, until 2001, returned between summoned the National Assembly. Collezionò then 26 presences making sign 2 goals. In 1999 it was part of training that has won the Copa America.
