Rentech

Rentech

Rentech (AMEX|RTK) is a United States company engaged in development and commercialization of a patented and prioprietary Fisher-Tropsch process for the conversion of vairous feedstocks to liquids fuels and chemicals. Rentech's process involves using a molten wax slurry reactor with an iron catalyst. []

Rentech's Product Demonstration Unit, located in Sand Creek, Colorado, is the first fully-integrated synthetic fuels and chemicals facility in the United States. The PDU started up and produced its first fuel during the summer of 2008. The PDU produces approximately 10 barrels per day of ultra-clean diesel, aviation fuels and naphtha. It is intended to serve as a testing ground for feedstock such as natural gas, petroleum coke and biomass, and as an end-to-end demonstration center for the production process of synthetic fuels.

In June, 2008, Rentech acquired an industrial site in Adams County, MS, formerly operated by International Paper. Rentech will build its first commercial synthetic fuels plant utilizing the Rentech Process at the site of its proposed Strategic Fuels and Chemicals Complex near the city of Natchez ("Natchez"). The Natchez facility, which will help meet the nation's growing need for clean-burning, alternative transportation fuels, will be built in two phases. Ultimately, the facility will produce approximately 28,000 barrels per day of ultra-clean fuels and chemicals.

Using the patented Rentech Process, the first phase of the facility will be designed to use petroleum coke together with at least 5% (as measured by energy content) of biomass as the gasification feedstock. In addition, the captured carbon dioxide that will be produced at this facility is designated to be sold under an existing long-term agreement with [Denbury Resources] for enhanced oil recovery in the region. With the carbon capture and sequestration plan as well as a biomass blend, the carbon dioxide emissions from the production of fuels at Natchez Phase 1 are expected to be substantially lower than those generated in the production of petroleum-derived fuels. Rentech believes the fuels produced at this facility will be among the most greenhouse gas friendly fuels available in the country.

Rentech is also exploring opportunities to utilize the Rentech Process for a stand-alone biomass-to-liquids plant that would convert renewable feedstocks to ultra-clean fuels and chemicals.

Rentech also owns and operates Rentech Energy Midwest Corporation ("REMC"), an ammonia nitrogen fertilizer facility located in East Dubuque, Illinois. The facility produces approximately 830 tons per day of natural gas-fed ammonia nitrogen fertilizer products that is sold to the surrounding agricultural community.

Corporate offices are located in Los Angeles with additional offices in Denver.
