Shomyo

Shōmyō ( ) is a style of Japanese Buddhist chant, used mainly in the Tendai and Shingon sects. Shomyo, like gagaku, employs the Yo scale, a pentatonic scale with ascending intervals of two, three, two, two, and three semitones.
