Amla is a city and a municipality in Betul district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Amla is a rail junction, served by broad gauge lines connecting Amla to Itarsi to the north, Nagpur to the southeast, and Chhindwara to the east.

Geography

Amla is located at coord|21.52|N|76.65|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/35/Amla.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Amla] ] It has an average elevation of 313 metres (1026 feet).It is famous for the Indian Air Force Depot, where bombs and missiles are stored.Earlier Amla Railway station was used as a base kitchen for catering in 1989, the base kitchen was shifted to Itarsi.Famous markets are - Bodkhi, Amla Town etc.People visit this place to see the waterfalls.Famous one is Pachama, about 20km from the railway station.Betul is around 36 km from this place, Major educational institutions are - Kendriya Vidyalaya Amla, Amla Government high school. etc.

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Amla had a population of 29,553. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Amla has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 56% of the males and 44% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
