- Graney class submarine
Project 885 Yasen (Graney) is a new Russian
attack submarine class, first vessel "Severodvinsk" will be commissioned about the year2010 .The Severodvinsk class multipurpose submarines are based on Schuka (Akula) and Lyra (Alfa, Project 705), implementing ideas proposed on projects 705A and 705D, combining ability to launch a variety of long-range nuclear missiles and efficiently engage hostile submarines and ships. The missiles carried include 3K-10 "Granat"Fact|date=February 2007 with 2500-3000 km range, and new Kh-101 and Kh-102Fact|date=February 2007 with range up to 5000 km [http://www.aviation.ru/Missiles/ List of Russian missiles] Note: Kh- and X- prefixes mean the same. The Russian prefix is Х-, which reads as "Kh", but is written exactly like X.] [ [http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/china/2002/urltrurl.htm Speeding up the Development of Advanced Strategic Weapons ] ] [ [http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/russia/kh-101-specs.htm Kh-101 specifications] ] . Their displacement is reduced compared to "Schuka", dive depth and maneuverability are significantly improved, due to more modern reactor and smaller displacement [ [http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/row/rus/885.htm Federation of American Scientists] ] [ [http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/885-specs.htm GlobalSecurity.org article] ] . Noise reduction solutions include ideas borrowed from Seawolf and VirginiaFact|date=February 2007, with additional use of acoustical decoupling and isolation of the internal and external hulls. Most control systems principles have been borrowed from Lyra and Schuka, but use modern hardware and software to overcome restrictions of older analog systemsFact|date=February 2007. Automation has been reported to match Lyra's level, with no manual work required, and everything controlled by officers or computers from the control room, but up to 25 seamen and petty officers are to be stationed for monitoring and servicing purposes, to avoid possible problems and reduce workload on officers.
