Institute for Research on Public Policy

The Institute for Research on Public Policy ("IRPP") is Canada's oldest non-partisan public policy think tank. Based in Montreal and founded in 1972, it publishes "Policy Options", edited by L. Ian MacDonald. The Institute is a registered charity in Canada and stated in its latest annual information return to the Canada Revenue Agency of having assets of roughly $36 million CAD at the conclusion of the 2007 fiscal year.

In June 2006, Mel Cappe became President and CEO. Hugh Segal served as President from 1999 to 2006, and Monique Jérôme-Forget from 1991 to 1998.

Governance

The organization is governed by a board of directors. Current members of the board are: Janice MacKinnon (chair), Graham Scott (Vice-chair), Peter Aucoin, Mel Cappe, Jim Dinning, Catherine Delaney, Ann Fitz-Gerald, Frederick Gorbet, Shira Herzog, Antonia Maioni, John Manley, Barbara McDougall, A. Anne McLellan, L. Jacques Ménard, Martha Piper, Guy Saint-Pierre, Bernard Shapiro, Mary Simon, Gordon Smith, Paul Tellier, Gordon Thiessen, Kent Weaver, and Wanda Wuttunee.
