Fleischkuekle

Fleischkuekle

Fleischkuekle is a type of meat pie made with flat bread, similar to a Cornish pasty, or Russian vareniki. The dish is traditional German Russian recipe, and through immigration became an addition to the Cuisine of North Dakota. It is also spelled Fleischkuechle.

In restaurants, fleischkuekle is made by frying a half-circle of dough containing a seasoned meat patty.

Deep fried dumplings with seasoned ground beef. This is a favorite in Germany and North Dakota. The sons and daughters that have left still bring them from the Golden Fleischkuekle factory in Stanton North Dakota which produces these treats sold in grocery stores in the area. Some people have been known to travel into the cold Dakota winter to retrieve these.

It is known in the area that Senator Marv Mutzenberger has the record of eating the most in one sitting at the family table (47).
