Captain Gregory Carl "Ray J" Johnson, United States Naval Reserve, is a NASA astronaut. He is planned to fly on STS-125 as a pilot, the final Hubble servicing mission by the Space Shuttle.

Johnson was born on July 30, 1954, in Seattle, Washington.

Johnson graduated with fellow astronaut Gregory H. Johnson, in the 1998 NASA Group. Gregory H. will serve as the pilot of the emergency STS-400 shuttle (aboard Endeavour), while Gregory C. is piloting STS-125 on Atlantis. They are of no apparent relation.

Johnson is a retired United States Navy captain. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Washington that he earned in 1977. Later, he received mlitary training at the Edwards Air Force Base, which he completed in 1984. His experience in the Navy included landings of dozens of aircraft, spending thousands of hours in flight.

He began his work with NASA in 1990, as an engineer and pilot at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Prior to his astronaut training, Johnson served as a NASA instructor for T-38 and commander for Gulfstream I aircraft. Indeed, he was hired to the astronaut corps in 1998. After his training, Johnson was responsible for readying the Space Shuttles and the astronauts riding aboard them. Since then, he has served as a technician in charge of assessing all Space Shuttle landing concerns.

Johnson enjoys athletics, and has two kids, Scott and Kent Johnson, but is divorced.
