John J. Tigert (born February 11, 1882 in Bell Buckle, Tennessee - died January 21, 1965 in Gainesville, Florida) was the president of the University of Florida from 1928 to 1947. He did his undergraduate work at Vanderbilt University and was a Rhodes Scholar at Pembroke College, Oxford.

Prior to going to Florida, Tigert was a professor of Philosophy as well as athletic director at the University of Kentucky. He also was a head basketball and football coach at UK. He was basketball coach in 1913 and again from 1916 to 1917. His record as a basketball coach as 17-15. Tigert was football coach from 1915 to 1916. During his tenure he compiled a 11-5-0 record.

Tigert Hall, the main administrative building at the University of Florida, is named for him.
