Highland High School is a public high school located in Anderson, Indiana. It is part of the Anderson Community School Corporation.

Demographics

For the 2006-07 school, with a student population of 1512, 75% of students are White, 20% of students are African American, 1% of students are Hispanic, and 2% of students are Biracial. Highland participates in a number of athletic events. Highland is a part of the Olympic Conference, along with Muncie Southside, Connersville, and Jay County.

* Teresa Henry (Williams) was the first highland girls track and field member to advance to the State Championship in 1977 in the 100 yard dash. She was MVP from 1974-1977, and was co-MVP with along with other club members.

* Highland has had three individual wrestling state champions, with Camden Eppert (36-1) most recently winning in 2006 (103lb. weight class)
* Since 2002, the Wrestling Team has had the highest varsity sports cumulative GPA in the school. The last three Valedictorians of HHS have been four-year varsity wrestlers (Jesse Miller/Chase Carroll in 2006, Chris McCool in 2007).
* Highland is also home to the only NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion to come from Indiana, Kelvin Jackson (Michigan State, 1995).

Music

Marching Highlanders

The Highland High School marching band is known as "The Marching Highlanders." With a rich tradition of excellence, the Highlanders are known throughout the state for their unique uniform and music. The Highlanders perform in full Scottish regalia, including kilts, plaids, and dublets. The Highlanders also have a bagpipe corps within their ranks, one of only a handful in United States high schools.

As early as 1958, the Marching Highlanders began competing in the annual "State Fair Band Day" competition held in Indianapolis. From 1958 through 1975, the Highlanders were a presence and force to be reckoned with, earning the title of State Champion on three occasions. The Highlanders returned to the State Fair in 2004 ] , and have proven their skills by earning the championship title in 2005 and 2007. In the years not participating in the State Fair, the Highlanders participated in the ISSMA Marching Band State Finals, competing in either Class A and B, depending on enrollment. While never attaining champion status, they were considered one of the premiere bands in the state.
