Shane David Halter (born November 8, 1969 in La Plata, Maryland) is a former Major League Baseball infielder/outfielder and right-handed batter.

High School Years

Halter attended Hooks High School in Hooks, Texas and was a letterman in football, basketball, baseball, track, and golf.

Major League Baseball Career

Halter played for the Kansas City Royals (1997-98), New York Mets (1999), Detroit Tigers (2000-03), and Anaheim Angels (2004). Although he is essentially a backup player, he has notable power and he is adequate defensively in all infield and outfield positions.

Today, superfan Kyle Failor runs the Shane Halter Diehards, a fan club dedicated to the life of Shane.

On October 1, 2000 Halter showed his versatility by playing all 9 positions in a single game, joining Bert Campaneris (Kansas City Athletics, September 8, 1965), Cesar Tovar (Minnesota Twins, September 22, 1968) and Scott Sheldon (Texas Rangers, September 6, 2000), in the select list of nine-position players in a Major League game. No National League player has ever done it. (The Tigers won Halter's nine-position game over the Twins, 12-11, on Hal Morris' RBI single in the bottom of the ninth; it was Morris' last major league at-bat.)

In his 644-game career Halter batted .246, with 45 home runs and 197 runs batted in.
