Piast Gliwice, IPA2|ˈpʲast gliˈviʦɛ, is a Polish football club based in Gliwice, Poland. Founded in June of 1945 by the Poles who had been forced to leave their homeland in present Western Ukraine, Piast's soccer team played for as many as 32 seasons in the Polish Second Division, however, it has never managed to qualify to the Ekstraklasa until 2008. Twice (1978, 1983, Piast managed to reach finals of the Cup of Poland. Club's name comes from the Piast dynasty, that ruled Poland from its beginnings as an independent state in the 10th century, until 1370.

Directions:Take bus number 59,60. Bus stop on ul. Piwnej, or take line number 676 on Plac (Square) Piastów During the 2008/2009 season, Piast will play their home matches in the MOSiR stadium in the town of Wodzisław Śląski.

Stadium History:The current stadium was constucted in the 1920s. It has been renevated and modernized many times since then. Before World War 2, SpVgg Vorwärts-Rasensport played their matches regularly in the stadium. The capacity of the stadium was around 15,000 in 1941. After the 1956 fusion of the three different clubs, GKS Gliwice was formed. Piast continued to play their matches on ul. Robotniczej. In 196, the 2 clubs merged together. The new club name was GKS "Piast" Gliwice. On July 21st 2006, an inauguration match against Pogon Szczecin was played at 21:00 with the new lighting system installed.
