Heaven (Oh My Goddess!)

Heaven (Oh My Goddess!)

Heaven is one of the two divine factions in the Oh My Goddess! anime/manga series

Norse references

nihongo|Yggdrasil|ユグドラシル|Yugudorashiru is the heavenly computer system that maintains reality, with the Gods and Goddesses acting as its programmers, system administrators, and debuggers and is named after the World Tree in Norse mythology, Yggdrasil. In Ah! My Goddess The Movie, Yggdrasil, voiced by Yuriko Yamaguchi, materialized on Earth as a tree with three intertwined trunks, presumably in reference to its Norse mythology counterpart of having three roots. In Ah! My Goddess (TV series) Yggdrasil appears to have a harp-like interface, again a reference to its Norse origin.

In the anime and manga

Yggdrasil has many functions, not only does it maintain reality (such as time), but also it is also a support system to gods and goddesses. When Yggdrassil's system crashed during the Lord of Terror incident, goddesses were forced to use alternative sources of energy which had proven to be a very limited source of energy.

Computer bugs in Yggdrasil manifest themselves as six-legged rabbits, which are "debugged" after being hit by mallets. It is dangerous to have too many bugs, because they can form a ring as that will create a gate for the bugs to manifest and copy themselves in great numbers. However, the bugs have little to no intelligence, and thus do not cooperate to form a ring under most circumstances.

Goddess Relief Office/Goddess Technical Helpline

Yggdrasil notifies the goddesses such as Belldandy working at the office of people whose fortune and misfortune is out of balance given their actions such as fortitude in facing misfortune, kindness in sympathizing with others. Each person Yggdrasil chooses is granted one wish for relatively anything. It is explained intentionally malicious wishes -- even the destruction of the world -- are unlikely given the nature of those granted for wishes. Ironically, even the main character's simple and good-natured (accidental) wish is vague and simple enough to create wide-reaching effects, suggestion the reason for their rarity.

Earth Support Office/Earth Assistance Hotline

A rival organization of the "Goddess Relief Office" that employs the goddess Peorth.
