Kuma-Manych Canal

Kuma-Manych Canal

The Kuma-Manych Canal ( _ru. Кумо-Манычский канал) is an irrigation canal serving the Kuma-Manych Depression. It connects the Kuma River, which flows into the Caspian Sea, with the Manych River, a tributary of the Don which flows into the Sea of Azov and connects to the Black Sea.

In June 2007, the leaders of Kazakhstan suggested that Russia build a much deeper canal (dubbed Eurasia Canal) along the same general route, suitable for large-ship navigation between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. The Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences started conducting a review of possible routes.
