Universal Football Club is a multicultural footballing organisation based in Glasgow. The players' countries of origin include Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Ivory Coast, Angola, Algeria, France, Libya, Morocco, Jamaica, Turkey, Mexico, Scotland and England.

History

The club was founded in 2005 by current Manager Moran Nthoiwa and the aim is to unite talented footballers from all different cultures, backgrounds and ages (over 18's) to come together and play football at a competitive level. Two organisations noticed the team's footballing talent and sponsored the club to pay for the team kit, training facilities, footballing equipment and other necessities to run the football club.

After that Universal entered the Unity league and in its first season finished third. Universal also took part in the league's Millennium cup where teams from all over Glasgow participated in the Summer Tournament. Universal won the tournament by beating Pollockshields 3-1 in the final.The club then added a second trophy to its cabinet by winning the Honest Men's Trust Cup. The tournament was held in Ayr and Universal where triumphent in the final by winning 1 - 0.

People, including politicians, were so encouraged by the club's talent that a special award was given to Universal by Sandra White, Member of the Scottish Parliament. The tournament was held in Nethercraigs Sports Complex on the 4th and 5th of August 2007. The final game was won 4-2 on penalties.The All Nations cup heroics was followed by further success. UFC where crowned SUL League Champions of 2007/2008 and SUL League Cup Champions 2007/2008.

Future

Universal football Club now aims to expand its organisation and also continue to promote itself as a multi-cultural footballing organisation.

Club Manager Moran Nthoiwa also hopes to up the level of football for his players by applying to the West of Scotland Amateurs league so that the team can make a bigger impression of its footballing talent and would also like to work with bigger clubs to utilise player's talent at a higher level.
