"Give a Little Bit" is the opening song on Supertramp's 1977 progressive rock album "Even in the Quietest Moments...". Its writing credits are given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, members of the band, although it is generally acknowledged to be a Hodgson compositionFact|date=June 2007. The song was released as a single that same year and became a hit for the band internationally, including a number 15 peak on the Billboard Hot 100.

Appearances in popular culture

The song became even more famous for its appearance in the 1978 film "Superman", where ten seconds of the song were heard just prior to the earthquake sequence.

Remakes

The song also was used in commercials for Gap during Christmas season 2001. The spots featured different singers interpreting their own distinctive style. Some of the artists who performed the song in the ads were Robbie Robertson, Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, Dwight Yoakam, India.Arie, Lisa Lopes, Seal, Alanis Morissette, Macy Gray, Shaggy, and Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls.

The song was re-released in 1992 to raise funds for the ITV Telethon Charity event, but failed to chart. The single included a live version of "Give A Little Bit" and also the album version of "Breakfast In America".

A remake of the song performed by the Goo Goo Dolls became a hit for them on October 5, 2004. It later appeared as a track on their album "Let Love In". The song has also been performed by Hodgson during his tour with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band, appearing on his Starr's album "Ringo Starr and Friends".

On Sunday 1st July 2007, Roger Hodgson sang this song as his finale for his short set at the Concert For Diana, held in Wembley Stadium in London.

Trivia

*In May 2005 Roger Hodgson was honoured by ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) in recognition of his song Give A Little Bit being one of the most played songs in the ASCAP repertoire in 2005.
*To help raise support for the victims of the Dec 26, 2004 tsunami tital wave Cartoon Network ran a series of ads with various artist singing the song along with several snapshots of various shows.

In 2004 the alternative rock band Goo Goo Dolls remade the song. The song later appeared as a track on their hit album "Let Love In".
