cities ="Tjörnin" (Icelandic "the Pond", from " meaning "pond" with a definite article) is a small
lake in centralReykjavík , the capital ofIceland . Although it is not among the biggest lakes in the country, it is one of the best known. Most visitors to
Reykjavík pass along its shore, as it is situated in the city centre next to the Reykjavik City Hall and several museums. TheUniversity of Iceland is also close by.Tjörnin has long been a favorite spot for bringing young children to see and feed the ducks, seagulls, swans and geese that reside there.
During the winter, the lake usually freezes over but hot geothermal waters are pumped in to defrost an area for water birds.
