Haloga

Haloga

Haloga are people who live in Halogaland in Harry Turtledove's Videssos series. They are blonde and have pale skin, and do not tolerate hot climates well. They love to drink wine or beer and are curiously laconic and pessimistic. Their religion is bloody, violent and ferocious. Haloga are usually armed with axes and used as mercenaries: imperial guards in Videssos are Haloga, as are the soldiers of Harvas Black Tunic.

They are very similar to vikings in our world. In fact Videssos is the alter ego of the Byzantine Empire which used Varangians, relatives of the Vikings. as imperial guards.
