Carl Kurlander is an American
television writer/producer . He is best known for his extensive work on American teensitcoms and has served as co-producer Peter Engel on a number of programmes including "", "Hang Time ", "USA High " and "Malibu, CA " and as a screenwriter who co-wrote the semi-autobiographical smash hit"St. Elmo's Fire".He is co-author of with comedian
Louie Anderson , and was featured inPo Bronson 's bookWhat Should I Do With my Life? , which landed him on theOprah Winfrey Show in February 2003. After appearing on Oprah, telling her how happy he was for moving back to his hometown of Pittsburgh.Trying to help his hometown's film industry, Carl ended up making a movie about his journey home called "A Tale of Two Cities" about the city which built America with its steel, cured polio, and invented everything from aluminum to the Big Mac which is now, like a lot of cities across this country, being challenged to reinvent itself. It is also about whether you can go home again and how hard it is to reinvent yourself. He is currently working as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the
