The Rapture of the Deep Tour is a worldwide concert tour by successful British band Deep Purple, taking place in support of their 2005 studio album "Rapture of the Deep". During the tour Deep Purple covers 5 continents and plays more than 50 countries. Overview

It commenced on 17 January 2006, with a sold-out gig at the 2,000 capacity London Astoria. The tour has since moved on into Europe, Australasia and South America where the concerts have for the first time featured graphic effects panels and two large video screens showing live footage of the band either side of the stage.

The tour returned to the United Kingdom on 21 April, 2007, beginning in Newcastle upon Tyne at the Metro Radio Arena, and ending in Birmingham's NEC. Support came from Styx and Thin Lizzy on the dates.

A one-off Indian show in Bangalore took place in December 2006. North American dates took place from 12 July in Atlanta to 25 August in Dallas. The Canadian shows took place on July 26 in London, Ontario at Rock The Park, July 28 in Montreal, Quebec at the Bell Centre and on July 29 in Quebec City. The next leg of the tour will begin in Romania, featuring another trip through Central Eastern Europe before touring much of France and a single show in Belgium.

The twelfth leg took place in Mexico and South America during February and March 2008.

During many concerts, singer Ian Gillan has dedicated the song "Wrong Man" to Wayne Williams, who has been incarcerated for child murders in the United States. Also, on the shows in Israel Gillan mentioned the insturmental song Contact Lost was writen by Stieve Mors in the studio about the Coloumbia spaceship disaster and the Israeli pilot Ilan Ramon.

In june, 2006 Deep Purple headlined Monsters of Rock festival at Milton Keynes Bowl, more than 30 000 people attended the show.Two weeks later Deep Purple headlined one of the prestigious in the world Montreux Jazz Festival (40th year annyversary). A year later, in 2007 this show was released as Live CD and DVD, called: They All Came Down To Montreux. Montreux 2006 show includes jam-session with Claude Nobs, several jazz/funky artists and jazz-version of Deep Purple's world hit Smoke on the Water.In 2006, during North American tour the band participated in Rock Fest Cadott, WI USA; And participated in Musikfest Bethlehem, In PA USA with John Kay & Steppenwolf.In 2008, july Deep Purple will headline Montreux Jazz Festival for the second time during the Rapture of the Deep tour, also the band will participate in 3 Rock Festivals in Germany.
Tickets for the band's Israeli dates in over a decade sold out within a few days, resulting in adding two more dates.

During the whole Rapture of the Deep tour Deep Purple headlined more than 30 world-known music festivals, including headlining Monsters of Rock for 2 times and Montreux Jazz Festival for 2 times.
