Bentleigh is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Bentleigh on the Frankston railway line. Bentleigh is classed as a Premium Station and is in Metcard Zones 1+2 overlap.

Facilities

The station is located at the northern end of the Centre Road level crossing, which also provides station access.

The station consists of three platforms, two in an island format. The island platform (platform 1 & 2, Flinders Street & Frankston bound) has a large brick building with an enclosed waiting room, a ticket office and toilets, while platform 3 (Frankston bound) has a smaller brick building. A large Metcard machine is located inside the waiting room, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 3.

History

Bentleigh station opened on December 19 1881 as "East Brighton". It was renamed to "Bentleigh" in 1907. [ [http://www.vicsig.net/index.php?page=infrastructure&name=Bentleigh VICSIG Infrastructure - Bentleigh] ]

In 1998 Bentleigh station was upgraded to Premium Station status.cite journal

] Previous to the works, Bentleigh closely resembled McKinnon station. At this time, the underpass was also filled in.

In 2006 the station had the pedestrian level crossing upgraded as part of the VicTrack trial of new crossing technology. The upgrades were fully operational by September 2006, and were monitored for six months to assess changes in pedestrian behaviour.
