Management of Technology is a relatively new academic discipline that focuses on the scientific, engineering, and management issues related to the commercial introduction of new technologies.

Approximately thirty American universities offer PhD. programs in the Management of Technology, including Vanderbilt University, Purdue University, University of Missouri–Rolla and Polytechnic Institute of NYU. In Canada, the Department of Management Sciences, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo offers both a PhD and Master of Management Sciences in the Management of Technology stream. In India, Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay also offers a Master of Management (M.Mgmt.) program and a Ph.D. program with a focus on Management of Technology.

IIT Delhi offers an MBA with focus on Technology Management.

Some specific areas that would be covered in Management of Technology would be technology assessment, technology forecasting, technology transfer and licensing, R&D and innovation management, entrepreneurship and technology strategy.

Management of Technology is an integrated application of engineering, science and management capabilities to the management of life cycle of new technologies, to accomplish the strategic objectives of an organization.The generic processes of Management of Technology include: identification of technologies, selecting, procurement, assimilation and exploitation of technologies for the production of goods and services.
