Labour Protection League

Labour Protection League

:"See also the Labour Protection League (India)."

The Labour Protection League was a trade union organising stevedores in the United Kingdom.

Founded in 1871, the League was inspired by the North East Nine Hours League. After winning several small strikes over wages in its first year, the union grew to 30,000 members. [http://www.union-communiste.org/?EN-archp-show-2006-7-747-4003-x.html]

The organisation split in the aftermath of the London Dock Strike of 1889, most members leaving to form the Amalgamated Stevedores' Labour Protection League.
