Uxbridge High Street railway station

Uxbridge High Street railway station

Uxbridge High Street station was located on what is now Oxford Road at the approximate position of Sanderson Road. The station was the southern terminus and only station on a short Great Western Railway (GWR) branch line that ran from the GWR/GCR joint line (now Chiltern Main Line).

The station opened on 1 May 1907 but had only a short life. It was closed to passengers on 25 September 1939 shortly after the start of World War II. Goods services continued until July 1964 when the station closed completely.

Branch line

The Uxbridge High Street branch was constructed so that it could be extended across the centre of Uxbridge to Uxbridge Vine Street station, the terminus of the GWR branch from West Drayton). This proposal was abandoned in 1914.

The branch from Uxbridge High Street ran along the west side of Shire Ditch and Fray's River and followed a line through the centre of what is now Denham Country Park. At its north end it had a triangular connection with the main line: west towards Denham and east towards West Ruislip. The three junctions were named Denham South, Denham West and Denham East. The curve between the South and East Junctions was little used, and closed during World War I.

Services generally ran from Uxbridge High Street to Denham via Denham West Junction, with some services extended two stations further, to Gerrards Cross.

The locations of the curves joining the main line can be seen in the landscape today, forming the northern perimeters of the park's northern lake and woodland adjacent to Uxbridge Golf Course.
