Trey Anastasio Band is the unofficial name of the latest touring project of former Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio. After touring with a backup band called 70 Volt Parade in 2005, with a continuously changing lineup, Anastasio solidified his group of musicians. While all but one of the musicians in this group performed as part of 70 Volt Parade in 2005, only Anastasio and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski were in this project’s initial lineup.

This band should not be confused with Anastasio’s first project which toured from 1999-2004. While this band or any of Anastasio's other bands did not have an official name, fans constantly referred to it as Trey Anastasio Band and TAB.

Music

Like Anastasio's previous backing band 70 Volt Parade, the group plays music that spans Anastasio’s solo career. Unlike 70 Volt Parade, however, it is not as rock-oriented, with songs closer to their original arrangements. Also, less focus is on Anastasio’s 2005 album "Shine", as promotion efforts have moved on to his 2006 album "Bar 17".

Touring history

The band made its debut in Atlanta, Georgia, with a two night run at The Tabernacle, before keeping a low profile for most of 2006. The band opened for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during the months of June and August, with one headlining show in late June at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass.

The took the summer of 2006 off, as Anastasio reunited with former Phish bassist Mike Gordon, and toured with the Benevento/Russo Duo.

After a brief fall tour to support Trey's "Bar 17" album and a New Year's Eve run, the band went on hiatus following Anastasio's arrest on drug charges. Neither Anastasio or his band have performed in any capacity in 2007.

Lineup changes

Due to a case of appendicitis, drummer Raymond Weber was replaced by former Aquarium Rescue Unit drummer Jeff Sipe (aka "Apt. Q-258).

Record label

After Anastasio released "Shine" on Columbia Records, he has ended that relationship and released "Bar 17" on his own newly-formed label Rubber Jungle Records. This relationship should solve the problems that Anastasio had with Columbia, which complicated live shows from being released on the Live Phish website.
