Charles Ubriaco

Charles Ubriaco

Charles Ubracio ["Umbriaco"] (c. 1867-September 7, 1916) was a mafiosi in the Morello crime family which ran the Harlem area of Manhattan.

Early life and career

Born as Camillo Ubriaco in Italy, not much is known about his activities or his involvement with Italian mafiosi prior to his arrival in the United States. His documented life starts when he arrived in America on August 27, 1909.

Mafia-Camorra war

On September 7th 1916, Ubriaco was walking down the street arm-in-arm with Morello to a meeting with the Camorra when they were ambushed at Johnson St. and Hudson Avenue. Ubrico drew his revolver and fired at the assailants as he backed away, but was hit and went down. Ubriaco was shot once in the heart and died immediately. Morello was killed also. Both men were murdered by Thomas Carillo and Lefty Esposito

Ubriaco wasn't part of the war that much but his and Nicholas Morello's death would spawn many more in the brutal Mafia-Camorra War. Since Morello was the boss, retaliation was the only answer. Ciro Terranova and many other mobsters would see to it that their deaths be avenged.Although Ubriaco's death was not avenged by the Morellos, his killers were arrested and indicted.
